#1 Nordic Co-working Spaces: Startup City
Are you ready to get out of the basement and move your startup into a real office? Before you get yourself locked into a lease, consider trying a co-working space! They are affordable, flexible and full of like-minded people. This is the first article in a series about co-working spaces in the Nordic region.
A co-working space is often a café-like collaboration space or a multi-functional space, but it can also be a normal office-like setup or even at someone’s home. Co-working spaces attract startups, freelancers and entrepreneurs that are looking to grab relatively inexpensive office space. In addition to Wi-Fi, work space, kitchen and conference rooms; these co-working spaces also offer people to become part of a community as well as rub elbows with like-minded people.
Unlike the typical office environment, a co-working space is generally shared by individuals from different organizations and professions. The main idea is that individual workers come together in a shared place to enjoy greater productivity, avoid isolation and can collide and collaborate with people that share the same values.
Introducing Startup City
Startup City is a co-working space and office founded in 2012, with a central location in Aarhus, Denmark. Startup City has taken over the former Ceres brewery’s administration building, and is total housing 15 companies in its big spacious building with high ceilings and a rustic look.

You can always go down to the basement, where you can chill out with some table tennis and grab a beer on Fridays.
Startup City is full of passionate people
Startup City’s vision is to be Aarhus’ epicenter of ambitious and growth-minded entrepreneurs, as well as having emphasis on companies in the seed investment stage. They have focus on ideas that are scalable, ambitious, have global potential and are knowledge-based or innovative.

Startup City is currently a mix of startups, freelancers and even an artist, resulting in a good mix of personalities, professions and organizations.

Startup City provides tables, chairs, Wi-Fi, Kitchen and meeting rooms for less than 2.000 DKR. per. month for one person. The big thing about Startup City is the work environment; people are always happy to lend a hand or spar with you!

The mayors of Startup City, Tommy Pedersen and Lasse Chor, are the ones choosing who are accepted into the community. They make sure that new residents fits the Startup City vision, as well as making sure there is some diversity between the members of Startup City.
