Catching up with Cortrium: Inside the Grants4Apps Accelerator Programme

Cortium has developed a wearable chest worn device, the C3, designed to assess three-channel high resolution ECG (heart rate), respiratory rate, body surface temperature. and an activity monitor. Furthermore the design is supporting future implementation ofblood oxygen level and blood pressure measurement. Data is continuously transmitted live via Bluetooth to any smart device or the cloud. Cortrium hopes this device will make early detection of diseases more accessible to the masses and in essence revolutionize global healthcare.

Danish startup Cortrium was one of the five startups chosen to participate in Bayer’s Grants4Apps accelerator programme. The startup spent the period of 100 days from August till December in the accelerator. All 5 teams were granted 50,000 euros, office space, as well as access to executive coaches. Bayer hoped the vibrant, hip ‘startup vibe’ of the accelerator programme would rub off on its company. Nevertheless Bayer’s result driven, zealous culture also influenced Cortrium.

“Bayer very much pushes you to be successful,”

says co-founder Jacob Eric Nielsen to Nordic Startup Bits.

Bayer helped to professionalize the startups by aiding them of them with the development of their product, marketing and pitching, and introducing the startups to potential investors and other interested parties.

Cortrium has come a long since its conception 1½ years ago at the old Nokia headquarters in Copenhagen. Since then Cortrium has come a long way in terms of creating a user friendly medical device. Unlike substitute products the C3 is wireless and allows users to track their vital signs on their smart devices.

At the Demo Day in Berlin Cortrium proudly presented how they were able to monitor the Little Mermaid’s ‘heart rate’ all the way from Copenhagen.

For the moment Cortrium is in talks with venture capitalists and expect to close a funding round within the next 3 months .
