New virtual career fair seeks to boost Nordic talent acquisition

Companies will relocate outside of the region without access to highly educated employees. The Nordicmade Career Fair is an unique initiative that aims to attract talent and keep Nordic startups within the region.

Getting the right talent is a hurdle all companies face, but some are concerned it is especially difficult in Denmark.

According to a report from Dansk Industri, a Danish employers association, 40-45% of companies within the Danish capital region have been unsuccessful in recruiting highly skilled employees.

If the company is having difficulty attracting new talent, it may move to an area where talent attraction is less competitive.  That is the risk according to Nikolaj Lubanski, CEO of talent in Copenhagen Capacity, a publicly funded Danish organization that aims to promote investments and economic development in and around Copenhagen.

“Greater Copenhagen has a strong tech-ecosystem that attracts global technology giants. But without access to the right highly educated employees, companies will naturally move to where the talent is, ” says Nikolaj.

The Nordicmade Career Fair is virtually unique

The Nordicmade Career Fair is the first virtual career fair that caters solely to startups. The event is backed by the entire Nordic ecosystem by using the hashtag #nordicmade.

“Talent is a huge demand within the ecosystem, and it is an area that we as an organization believe that we can make a contribution and a real difference,” says Zenia W. Francker,  Chief Relations Officer at the startup co-working space Founders House, who co-host the event with Graduateland, a Copenhagen-based jobs portal for recent graduates.

According to Zenia, the aim is to create a career fair that accommodates both recent graduates as well as the more experienced entrepreneurs.

“There are a number of different jobs at the Nordicmade Career fair, starting at the entry level with unpaid internships, to  hardcore senior developers to co-founder positions. We cover the entirety of the startup job spectrum.”

Even though this is the first time the event is has occurred, it has already peaked interest within the target group.
