Uppstart Tech Meetup Doubles in Size in Uppsala

Uppstart is a free one-day technology startup event for anyone interested in the field, regardless of occupation. So whether you are a student, a startup, an entrepreneur, an investor or anything in between Uppstart is the event you want to join if you share the interest.

Two times a year the city of Uppsala hosts Uppstart and recently the event took place in the magnificent Uppsala Castle. Behind the initiative stands Jason Dainter. He is very proud of the event, which this time experienced no less than 780 individual sign ups. With this number Uppstart is one of the largest tech startup meetups of its kind in the country.

31caea3“I’ve been absolutely amazed about how quickly Uppstart has grown in just 1 year, and am very humbled by how supportive both the tech startup community has been but also our increasing list of partners and sponsors that help us to keep putting these events on for free. Finally Uppsala’s talented startup community is getting the recognition it deserves,” says Jason Dainter

Something for every taste
For a great event like this it is important, that the physical surroundings are spot on. Therefore the event includes good music and free food and beer. To get an impression of the atmosphere check out this short video.

Among other interesting bits the main event included 25 startups doing live pitches in front of investors including Creandum, Lingfield AB, Priming Ventures, DP Lauren Invest, The Springfield Project, MOOR, STING and many more. Participants could also experience a live on-stage discussion with Tim Jackson (UK based early stage technology investor, running Lean Investments) and Creandum. These world class panelist discussed early stage investment in the tech industry in Sweden

Besides these great features, participants also witnessed drones flying around filming, a biohacking event in which a person was chipped live with a NFC biochip, and an Estonian DJ called Mash Machine who brought their live mixing table to power the evening’s music.

All in all the event really includes something for anyone.

Great support from the city and various partners
Even though it started as a grass root initiative, Uppsala has experienced great support from the city (the municipality of Uppsala) already from the beginning. This is very encouraging for the future. Besides the support from the city the event has also received support from a number of partners. These include Nordcloud, Google Cloud Platform, Länsstyrelsen, .SE, Entrepreneurs Academy & Interactive Solutions.

“Quite simply, the events would not be possible without our partners and sponsors. And aside from helping to keep Uppstart completely free the ongoing support I’ve had has helped us to grow the event to such a substantial size in just a year,” says Jason Dainter

The next event will be held around September this year and going forwards they will be held twice a year. Free tickets and details will be announced shortly on www.uppstart.co or you can like the event on facebook to keep up to date at www.facebook.com/uppstart.co
