At Oddference, Espoo Game Lab Showcases at the Tavastia Club, in Helsinki Center

Espoo Game LAB (EGL) is a unique game lab located in Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland. EGL was created to foster growth in the gaming industry by equipping participants with the essential skills to either secure a job in the field or launch their own gaming companies.

The program offers tailored business support and guidance to help teams, startups, and entrepreneurs succeed in the competitive gaming industry.

It focuses on key areas such as game design, programming, content creation, game production, and business development. Participants gain the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to turn their ideas into sustainable businesses, while gaining access to expert mentorship and a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.

This initiative is part of the Game Hub for SMEs in the Capital Region project, co-funded by the European Union.

The Espoo Game LAB brings together gaming industry enthusiasts and other creative minds to build successful teams.

During their Showcase at the famous Tavastia Club (@tavastiaklubi) in the heart of Helsinki, the selected gaming startups were able to get feedback on their games in development.

“They did a great job,” says industry veteran Elina Arponen (Playables.ai), who was there to playtest the different games.

Young game developers feel that getting a game all the way to release together is one massive learning experience—a necessary journey to take.

Three stages and a showcase area brought together games, AI, digital art, workshops, and boundary-pushing live music into one immersive environment.
