Crypho makes confidential and encrypted communications available to everyone, everywhere

Crypho is a privately-held Norwegian company that builds encrypted real-time communications solutions for the web.

I have heard several times the words security, hacker, internet not safe anymore, unsafe data transfer, virus and antivirus, unknown IP, etc, etc. and etc. again.

And when I was beginning to feel a bit uncomfortable,  Crypho and the name Geir Bækholt came to me.

When I read about something new (technology, art, etc…) I enjoy looking for the people behind the idea or concept, what they think about it, or how they are.

So, I found this quote:

“Entrepreneur, open source developer and community leader, geek, inventor, activist, atheist, foodie, dad, husband, enjoyer of stuff. I laugh a lot. I care. Founder of Crypho. Crypho is awesome confidential chat and file transfers for business — protected with end-to-end strong encryption for full confidentiality.” – about.me/baekholt

And of course, it took me only one minute to get completely involved in this concept and want to know much more about it.

Crypho was founded in 2012 by industry veterans with many years of experience in open-source projects and enterprise consulting. Its team has worked within the content management and online collaboration market for more than 10 years as consultants building custom projects for SMEs and large organizations.

An impressing track record

In 2013 they won the international award Startup World London  for their product. The same year, they stood on stage again in the British capital during LeWeb conference. In Westminster Hall, they were the only Scandinavians among the 16 finalists, defending  Norway’s honor in the prestigious competition, selected from over 500 others.

Since then, the company has built intranets, collaboration platforms, and custom solutions for high profile customers such as Dixons, Nokia, the Nordic Council of Ministers, the United Nations, Oxfam, the University of Oxford, and Deloitte.

Several news outlets and influencers have featured Crypho as one of the startups to watch in 2015. They have  made the Techrepublic’s top-10 enterprise startups to watch for 2015 next to Docker and Slack, and they have been featured on Computer Weekly’s top Nordic startups.

100% web-based

Crypho is a Software-as-a-Service solution used through a normal web-browser. No pre-installation of software, firewall-configuration, or key exchange is necessary.

They describe themselves as a collaboration tool with instant messaging, file sharing, and basic document editing for groups in real time. The end-to-end encryption means that all messages and files are encrypted on your device before being transferred over the Internet. They can not be decrypted and read before arriving safely at the recipient with the correct keys. No one has access to your encryption keys, not even Crypho’s own staff.
